Probe into fraudulent email circulating in CID Director’s name

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an inquiry after a fraudulent email was circulated falsely claiming to be from its Director, Shani Abeysekara. Police warned that a person or group is sending a fake email message to the public claiming to be Shani Abeysekara, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Colombo 07, Sri Lanka, Nationwide Could, Protection 24/7. The CID has also confirmed that the email was not issued or authorized by them. The messages are believed to have been circulated to mislead the public, commit financial fraud, or unlawfully obtain personal information. The CID is actively working to identify the individuals or groups behind the emails and will take appropriate legal action. The public are urged to exercise caution and avoid sharing any personal or confidential information in response to messages from these addresses.
