Public State of Emergency extended further

The resolution submitted to Parliament to extend the declared public state of emergency by a further month has been passed by a majority of 104 votes. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya opposed the extension of the state of emergency, while All Ceylon Tamil Congress MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam called for a division. At the vote, 106 votes were cast in favour of extending the public state of emergency, while only around two votes were cast against it. Meanwhile, resolutions brought under the Essential Public Services Act were passed unanimously.
