QR code misuse: 153 mobile numbers referred to CID

Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Health and Mass Media – Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, announced that 153 mobile phone numbers found to have illegally downloaded and misused the QR code system have been identified and referred to the police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for legal action. He made the announcement at a media briefing held yesterday (March 22) at the Department of Government Information. The QR code system, introduced to reduce energy consumption, currently has nearly 06 million registered users, with the total number of QR codes standing at 5,993,365. Daily registration figures since March 15 are as follows: March 15 – 42,899 March 16 – 337,068 March 17 – 395,349 March 18 – 301,463 March 19 – 654,342 March 20 – 329,687 March 21 – 218,909 March 22 (as of 8:45 a.m.) – 15,133 Minister Jayatissa noted that around 02 million new registrations have been recorded since March 15.
