Red notices issued for 8 over Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder

Police have informed the court that Interpol Red Notices have been obtained against 08 suspects currently hiding overseas, over the fatal shooting of organized criminal figure – Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne alias ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’. Officers of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) told Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama that open warrants have already been issued for the arrest of the suspects, and steps have now been taken to circulate international red notices in English as well. Police further stated that Ishara Sewwandi, alleged to be the mastermind behind the killing of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, has been detained under fresh detention orders for an additional 90 days for extended questioning. The suspect had previously been arrested while in hiding in Kathmandu, Nepal, and had already been questioned for 90 days under earlier detention orders, which expired on Jan. 15. Investigators informed the court that new detention orders were obtained to continue the interrogation process. After considering the submissions, the Chief Magistrate directed the CCD to report back to court on the progress of the investigations on Feb. 06.
