It is reported that major shareholders of a well-known commercial bank, which claims to uphold a compassionate ethos, have been informed that a Regional Manager for the Colombo District had solicited a sexual bribe from a female manager in exchange for granting her a promotion. Information has also emerged that the said individual had allegedly made similar proposals to several other female managers of the bank. Meanwhile, it is further alleged that due to pressure exerted on employees by the bank’s senior management, nearly 60 per cent of its staff have developed heart-related ailments. In addition, accusations have reportedly been levelled against the bank’s top management in connection with the sudden death of a young manager from Moratuwa, who had served as the manager of its Wellawatte branch, allegedly due to a heart attack brought on by such workplace pressure.
