Renewable Energy cannot be increased to 70% by 2030 – Dayasiri Jayasekara

Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara states that the current Government is discouraging the renewable energy generation sector, including electricity produced from solar power, and that consequently it will not be possible to increase renewable energy to 70 per cent by 2030. He made these remarks at a media briefing held in Colombo. He further claimed that the Government is planning to reduce the payment for a unit of electricity generated from rooftop solar panels to Rs. 17, and that as a result investors will be reluctant to enter the sector in the future. Mr Jayasekara also stated that while Rs. 17 is to be paid for a unit of electricity generated from solar power, Rs. 85 is paid for a unit of electricity generated from fossil fuels.
