The match against Pakistan to be played at Pallekele today (28) in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be the final match in which Sri Lanka Cricket head coach Sanath Jayasuriya serves in his coaching role. Mr Jayasuriya had confirmed even before the start of the tournament that he would step down from his post following this T20 World Cup, and he has not changed that decision so far. Responding to media queries regarding his decision to step down, he stated that although his contract as head coach still had time remaining, he had no intention of continuing in the position. Jayasuriya first assumed duties as interim coach during the series against India in July 2024 and was subsequently appointed full-time head coach at the end of that year. During his tenure as head coach, the Sri Lanka team has played 74 matches across all formats, recording 34 wins and 38 losses. In addition, two matches ended without a result.
