Senior Committee meets to coordinate foreign disaster relief

The Senior Committee on the Coordination of Foreign Disaster Relief has convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara. The purpose of the meeting was to review the coordination of foreign assistance and to take decisive steps to ensure full transparency and operational efficiency in the disaster relief programmes currently being implemented. Committee members also discussed the fair distribution of such assistance to those in need through a more systematic and transparent process. Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Aruna Jayasekara emphasised the need for coordinated action and close cooperation among all relevant institutions in order to optimise the utilisation of foreign assistance. In addition, he instructed the committee to submit all necessary data, reports and information to the Presidential Secretariat without delay.
