Shiranthi summoned to FCID ; requests grace period

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife – Shiranthi Rajapaksa has informed through her lawyers that she is unable to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division today (Jan. 27) due to personal reasons. According to reports, she has requested a grace period of two-weeks. Mrs. Rajapaksa, was summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID). It is reported that she was informed on Jan. 23 to appear before the FCID today (Jan. 27) at 9.00 am to record a statement. The FCID stated that the summons was issued in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities related to a bank account maintained under the name ‘Siriliya’ during former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure. Meanwhile, a notice has also been issued to Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, directing him to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (26) to provide a statement regarding ongoing investigations into “Kehelbaddara Padme,” a member of an organized crime syndicate.However, Police confirmed that Rajapaksa has requested a one-week extension to appear, as he is currently on an official trip to India.
