Showers over 50mm expected in several provinces

Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva, Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts today (Feb. 13), the Department of Meteorology stated. Fairly heavy rainfalls above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Uva Province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya, Matale, and Polonnaruwa districts. Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern Province and in the Anuradhapura district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa Province, Kalutara, Galle, and Matara districts. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning. The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
