Colombo Additional Magistrate Nuwan Kaushalya today (11) ordered that six suspects, including the son of model Piumi Hansamali, be remanded until the 16th in connection with an incident in which a three-wheeler driver was allegedly assaulted following a road accident in the Kalapaluwawa area of Rajagiriya. The suspects, who were arrested by the Welikada Police and produced before court, were also ordered to be placed on an identification parade on the said date. The order was made after considering a request made by the Welikada Police upon producing the six suspects before court. Police informed court that, according to preliminary investigations, a friend of Piumi Hansamali’s son was involved in a motorcycle accident with a three-wheeler while travelling in the Rajagiriya area about three months ago. Following the incident, Piumi Hansamali’s son and the other suspects are alleged to have arrived at the scene and assaulted the three-wheeler driver. Police further informed court that the assaulted individual had been admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo, and received treatment. The suspects were arrested and produced before court based on a complaint lodged with the Welikada Police by the assaulted three-wheeler driver.
