SL botanical gardens earn over Rs. 1 bn. in 2025

The Department of National Botanic Gardens has announced that the country’s botanical gardens generated over Rs. 1.394 billion in revenue in 2025. This is a 7% increase from 2024, despite Cyclone Ditwah. The surge is attributed to rising tourism, with over 02 million visitors across all gardens, including the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya, which drew over one million visitors. Revenue was boosted by entrance fees, plant sales, and on-site services, reports say.
