SLPP issues statement as Shiranthi leaves FCID

Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, left the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) after recording a statement for more than four hours. The former First Lady arrived at the FCID at around 9.30 a.m. today (Feb. 03) to provide statements in connection with several ongoing investigations. She was summoned today to give a statement in relation to an investigation into alleged financial fraud said to have taken place through an account named “Siriliya”, which was maintained as a joint account by Shiranthi Rajapaksa and two others during the period when Mahinda Rajapaksa served as President. Shiranthi Rajapaksa had previously been summoned to provide a statement on 27 January, but did not appear on that day and had requested an alternative date. Accordingly, she was summoned today. At the time Shiranthi Rajapaksa was leaving the FCID, a large number of supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) had gathered at the location. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna issued a statement this afternoon (03) regarding the summoning of Shiranthi Rajapaksa to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division. Siriliya records with the FCID – SLPP The statement noted that all account reports, books and documents of the Siriliya Saviya Organisation had been taken into the custody of the FCID at the time investigations were conducted into the matter in 2015. Against such a backdrop, the statement added, she was summoned again today to the FCID and questioned on the same matters.
