SLS certification mandatory for kids’ plastic bottles from April

All plastic water bottles and polymer-based feeding bottles used by young children and students in Sri Lanka must carry the Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) mark to ensure safety, according to reports. Acting Director General of the Consumer Affairs Authority – Samantha Karunarathne, stated that the regulation will come into effect from April, 2026. Accordingly, all imported and locally distributed water bottles must comply with SLS 1616 and SLS 1306 standards. She also emphasized that the law will be strictly enforced in this regard.
