According to a recent audit report by the National Audit Office (NAO), SriLankan Airlines incurred a loss of USD 4.16 million in the 2024/2025 financial year due to flight delays. The report highlights a 44% increase in losses compared to the previous year, noting a persistent rise in flight delays over the past 04 years. Out of 46,518 scheduled flights, only 23,055 were operated, with 29% experiencing delays. Key factors contributing to the delays include technical faults affecting aircraft readiness, staff shortages among flight crew and ground personnel, and inadequate maintenance planning, according to the audit report. Additional operational challenges identified were global supply chain disruptions, bird strikes, and aircraft availability constraints. Despite these operational setbacks, SriLankan Airlines was recognized as the “Best Airline for South Asia” at the 2025 International Tourism Conclave and Travel Awards (ITCTA) held in New Delhi, India.
