Jaffna University Vice Chancellor Professor Sivakolundu Srisathkunarajah said yesterday that a student who was removed from the University for submitting false information had attended the Medical Faculty orientation programme for nearly two months. He said the student had faced the admission interview in November last year and had stayed at the Medical Faculty hostel during this period. The Vice Chancellor said that Medical Faculty students are first enrolled to the university and the orientation programme. “When the regular academic programme commenced, we noticed that the student did not possess the required academic knowledge. As a result, we decided to verify her qualifications with the University Grants Commission (UGC),” the Vice Chancellor said. According to him, the student, a resident of Moneragala, had obtained only three S passes in the science stream at the GCE Advanced Level Examination, making her ineligible for admission to the Medical Faculty. Professor Srisathkunarajah added that the student was handed over to her parents after they were informed of the offence she had committed by submitting falsified information to the university and the UGC.
