“Taste and Craft – Ella 2026” exhibition opens today

The Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure has announced that the special exhibition “Taste and Craft – Ella 2026” will be held today (Feb. 27) and tomorrow (Feb. 28) in Ella town, aiming to promote local entrepreneurship and drive growth in the palmyrah industry. The event is organized in coordination with the Badulla District Secretariat and the Ella Pradeshiya Sabha. A highlight of the programme will be a certificate awarding ceremony for participants who completed a 03-month specialized training programme conducted by the Palmyrah Development Board’s Weerawila Training Centre. The exhibition will feature a wide range of value-added palm-based products developed by the trained entrepreneurs. In addition, institutions affiliated with the Ministry will showcase locally produced items related to cashew, kithul, and coconut industries. These products will be available for both display and sale, with the aim of attracting tourists and expanding market opportunities. The Ministry emphasized that initiatives of this nature are intended to open new market avenues for local entrepreneurs, provide structured training, and bring Ministry services closer to the public in a more efficient and accessible manner.
