Teenage pregnancies up, child marriages down

The National Child Protection Authority has revealed, in its latest data report released recently, that the number of teenage girls becoming pregnant increased last year compared to 2024. According to the report, 79 teenage girls became pregnant last year, while 53 teenage pregnancies were recorded in 2024. It also states that nine incidents of children under the age of 18 getting married were reported last year, marking a decline in child marriages compared to 2024. In 2024, 14 incidents of marriages involving children under the age of 18 were reported. The report further notes that 150 incidents were recorded last year in which children were threatened with the release of nude photographs on the internet.
