Three former officials of the Department of Motor Traffic arrested

Three former officials of the Department of Motor Traffic have been taken into custody on several charges, including the fraudulent registration of a number of vehicles. The three suspects were arrested this morning (26) by investigating officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. Those arrested are: A former Development Assistant (Road Safety), on charges of entering data to facilitate the unlawful transfer of three vehicles that do not have a valid original registration with the Department of Motor Traffic; A former Investigation Assistant, on charges of issuing number plates to facilitate the unlawful transfer of three vehicles that do not have a valid original registration with the Department of Motor Traffic; and A former Assistant Commissioner, on charges of granting approval for the unlawful transfer of three vehicles that do not have a valid original registration with the Department of Motor Traffic. The arrested suspects are due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
