Tourist arrivals exceed 400,000

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority states that the number of foreign tourists arriving in the island so far this year has surpassed 400,000. The Authority noted that a total of 401,787 foreign tourists arrived in the island between 1 January and 12 February. The highest single-day tourist arrival during this period was recorded on 12 February, when 12,731 tourists visited the country. Indian nationals accounted for the largest number of arrivals, totalling 70,880 visitors. In addition, 44,053 British nationals, 36,949 Russian nationals, 28,332 German nationals, and 22,309 Chinese nationals were among those who arrived, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority further stated. A significant number of tourists also arrived from countries including France, Australia, and the Netherlands. Furthermore, the Authority noted that 124,460 foreign tourists arrived in the island during the first 12 days of February alone.
