Tourist arrivals surpass 300,000

The number of foreign tourists who have arrived in the island so far in 2026 has exceeded 300,000, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. The Authority stated that a total of 317,381 foreign tourists arrived in Sri Lanka during the period from 1 January to 4 February. Indian nationals accounted for the largest share of arrivals, numbering 57,348. This was followed by 34,724 tourists from the United Kingdom, 30,951 from Russia, 20,272 from Germany and 16,315 from China, the Authority further said. In addition, a significant number of tourists have arrived from countries including France, Australia and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority noted that 40,054 foreign tourists arrived in the country during the first four days of February alone.
