Traffic & security plan in Colombo during ICC T20 World Cup

Police say 1,500 police officers and 600 traffic police personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety and security of local and foreign spectators attending matches of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup Cricket Tournament. According to police, spectators will be strictly prohibited from bringing large luggages, glass bottles, drone devices, sharp objects, narcotics, and alcoholic beverages into stadium premises. In addition to uniformed officers, plainclothes police personnel and intelligence officers will also be deployed to ensure public security. Meanwhile, the Colombo Traffic Division announced that a special traffic management plan will be implemented across the city, as a large number of local and foreign spectators are expected to attend during the tournament period. Accordingly, from tomorrow (Feb. 07) until March 08, traffic restrictions and diversions will be in effect in areas surrounding the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Maligawatta, and the Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) Grounds in Colombo 07, where matches are scheduled to be held.
