Two arrested for aiding the Jinṭupitiya shooting

A male and a female suspect who aided and abetted the crime of a fatal shooting in Jintupitiya, in which one person was killed and four others were injured, have been arrested. Further investigations have revealed that the male suspect was the driver of the three-wheeler in which the gunman fled with the firearm after the incident, and that the female suspect had assisted him. The shooting was carried out on the 14th of this month, and officers of the Colombo North Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau had commenced an investigation into the incident. Accordingly, the suspects were arrested yesterday (27) in the areas of Suriyapaluwa in Kadawatha and Weheragodella in Wellampitiya. Police stated that a team of officers from the Colombo North Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau arrested the male suspect with 6 grams and 540 milligrams of the drug ‘ice’, and the female suspect with 3 grams and 100 milligrams of ‘ice’, and produced them before the Foreshore Police Station. The male suspect, aged 44, and the female suspect, aged 29, are residents of Sedawatta and Weheragodella, respectively. It is expected that seven-day detention orders will be obtained for both suspects. The Foreshore Police are conducting further investigations.
