Two Sri Lankan women arrested for bringing flowers into the country

Two Sri Lankan women have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport while in possession of a consignment of anthurium plants worth approximately Rs. 1 million, which had been brought into the country illegally. The suspects had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, and 436 anthurium plants were found in their possession. It has been reported that the plants were brought into the country without the required import permit from the Department of Agriculture. Accordingly, the two women were arrested by Sri Lanka Customs officials. The suspects are aged 40 and 45 and are residents of the Colombo and Avissawella areas, according to reports.
