The United Kingdom’s Deputy Prime Minister, David Lammy, will undertake a brief visit to Sri Lanka on Tuesday, during which he is scheduled to meet President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. Mr. Lammy is expected to arrive on Tuesday morning and hold discussions with the Sri Lankan leadership. During his visit, he will also sign an agreement on the Charter for the Global Campaign on Children’s Care. He will subsequently participate in the Global Charter on Children’s Care Reform event to be held at the United Nations office in Colombo. The Global Charter on Children’s Care Reform calls on world leaders to work collectively to uphold United Nations conventions on the rights of children and the rights of persons with disabilities. It further urges governments to invest in families, children, care leavers and inclusive services, while taking decisive action to end violence against children and harmful practices such as orphanage tourism. Mr. Lammy is scheduled to depart Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening following the conclusion of his engagements.
