US destroys 16 Iranian minelayers near Strait of Hormuz

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that several vessels belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, including 16 minelayers, were destroyed near the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, CENTCOM shared footage on X of multiple vessels being annihilated. The strike was reportedly carried out based on intelligence indicating that Iranian warships were positioned in the Strait of Hormuz – one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, through which about 20% of global oil supply passes.
