Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thero and others further remanded

The Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court has ordered the further remand of 04 Buddhist monks, including Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera, and 06 other suspects until Feb. 09. The 10 suspects, who are currently in remand custody in connection with the Trincomalee Buddha statue incident, were produced before the court today (Feb. 02). The case stems from a complaint lodged by the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resources Management over an unauthorized structure erected within a coastal protected zone in Trincomalee town, at a site where a Buddha statue had been installed. Those named in connection with the incident include the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi Bodhiraja Viharaya in Trincomalee – Ven. Kalyanawansa Tissa Thera, along with Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera, Ven. Trincomalee Sukhithawansa Tissa Thera, and Ven. Nanda Thera.
